Not Too Jewish is the retelling of a story of antisemitism, hypocrisy, and Hollywood.

This project was featured in the 2022 Austin Studio Tour exhibit at Austin Community College for graphic design and typography.

Project Scope: Concept, Title, Typography, Book Design
How It’s Made: InDesign, Photoshop

The goal of this project was to develop a full-color brochure for existing content. I chose a special interest subject - a passion piece, if you will - something personal, complicated, and probably uncomfortable for many to think about. Honestly, growing up Jewish in the US is a trip. Nobody knows anything about us, but everybody sure has an opinion.

Working with the full text from Malina Saval’s 2021 article for Variety, Too Jewish for Hollywood: As Antisemitism Soars, Hollywood Should Address Its Enduring Hypocrisy in Hyperbolic Caricatures of Jews, I chose to focus on informational design elements – definitions, images, callouts, anything to help the reader understand the importance of the material.

“Hollywood has a social responsibility to reflect with unflinching accuracy the experience of being an ethnic minority in America, whether Asian or Black or Muslim or Indigenous, and that same social imperative holds true for the Jewish community.”
- Malina Saval
