BookWoman is the “oldest, queerest feminist bookstore in Texas”.
Originally founded as a collective by Susan Post in 1975, the store was first run out of Post’s own home and now lives on North Lamar as one of only a dozen feminist bookstores remaining in the United States.
Project Scope: Concept, Logo, Brand Identity
How It’s Made: Illustrator, Photoshop
The goal for this project was a logo-focused updated brand identity for BookWoman. An independent bookstore institution in Austin, they needed a new look to tell customers, tourists, and passersby who they are.
The primary challenge was to not just update, but upscale the shopping experience at BookWoman and drive home their importance in the community. Independent bookstores are forced to charge higher prices to stay afloat and customers want their shopping experiences to reflect that.
